HUGO GAIDO
Hugo Germán Gaido is an Argentine-German guitarist whose artistic versatility and cultural depth have enriched the musical landscape for decades. Born in Buenos Aires, he relocated to Germany early in life due to political circumstances in Argentina, and has since made it his home base for artistic work.
His musical journey began with classical piano lessons in childhood. Influenced by tango, rock, and South American rhythms, he ultimately discovered his artistic voice through the guitar. He studied classical guitar with Carlos Mozzi in Argentina, later continuing his studies with Wolfgang Weigel in Münster and Louis Gall in the Netherlands.
In addition to his solo work, Gaido is an in-demand chamber musician, theater collaborator, and educator. His repertoire spans Latin American music, tango, and contemporary classical works. He is known for close collaborations with contemporary composers, which have strongly shaped his artistic identity. Numerous radio features and recordings with labels such as Naxos, Cantate, and Ambitus document his creative output. His CD of music by Astor Piazzolla sold over 100,000 copies and was widely praised by critics.
Since 1994, Gaido has been teaching at the Haltern Music School, which he has led as director since 2024. He is passionately committed to music education and cross-generational cultural work — both as a teacher and administrator. His long-standing ties to the school, the city, and his colleagues are key to his vision of a vibrant and inclusive musical culture.
He is also active as a producer. Since founding his own music label DREYER-GAIDO in 2001, he has realized over 150 productions — spanning classical, jazz, and the musical influences of his youth.
What defines Hugo Gaido is his constant search for depth, authenticity, and connection — as a musician, teacher, and cultural thinker. For him, music is more than art: it is encounter, responsibility, and lived identity.
